Val Kilmer
BUZZKILL TIME:
Every time people make fun of pictures of fat Val Kilmer, all I can think of is how someone (like the kind of cruel ex I don’t actually have) could do the same thing by comparing pictures of me now to pictures of me in high school or early college. You know, back when my main hobbies were a) socially acceptable disordered eating and b) self-loathing.
So this is a PSA: People often get fat. This includes people in whose appearances you feel somehow invested — whether because you used to sleep with them, or because you saw them play Batman at a formative age.
This sense of investment is illusory; you don’t actually have any say over what other people do with their bodies, nor any right to mock them if you don’t approve of how they look.
Yeah, he’s not a woman, so I’m less fussed over this than I might otherwise be, the principle is a damn good one: Quit policing people’s bodies. It’s entitled, harmful behavior, and it’s not fucking nice.
